From 2-D to 3-D, FPS games continue to evolve from their distant ancestors in the 1980s to their more distinguished relatives of the 1990's slowly advancing 3-D graphics, HQ sound, realistic weaponry, character to game interactions and multiplayer versatility.

Games like "Marathon," "Quake" and "Duke Nukem 3D" paved the way for the gaming future. Without them, we wouldn't have the interactive environments, voice chat and life-like experience that games like "Halo" and "Battlefield" have today.

From games that were as simple as point-and-shoot to complex plot lines, it's amazing that in 30 years FPS games can go from "Wolfenstein 3D" to "Call of Duty: Black Ops II."
